Physiotherapy

The hospital retains the services of a full-time registered physiotherapist and a physiotherapy assistant who provide rehabilitation services to complex continuing care patients, in-patients, as well as out-patients. Wherever possible, patients are guided and taught how to manage their own recovery from - or adjustment to - dysfunction or disability, with an aim to empower independence. The majority of the workload covers 3 major areas:

  1. 1) Orthopaedics (eg, sprains, strains, joint replacements)
  2. 2) Neurological (eg, strokes, spinal cord injury)
  3. 3) Cardio-pulmonary rehabilitation (eg, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pneumonia, cardiac rehab)

The department has a variety of equipment to assist in the rehabilitation of patients, and a strong emphasis is placed on home exercise to assist individuals in regaining maximum function.
