Your Hospital Stay

What To Bring With You

To make your stay comfortable, you may bring your own nightgown, pajamas, robe, slippers and toiletries such as toothbrush and toothpaste, shampoo, etcetera. No electrical appliances - except razors and hair dryers - are permitted in the hospital. These are to be checked by a Building Services Team Member before use. Please do not bring jewelry or money except for small change, as the hospital cannot accept responsibility for loss or damage to personal articles left in your hospital room.

All personal medications must be sent home, or left at the Nursing Station until your discharge.

Patients are responsible for personal laundry.

Telephone Service

Telephone service is available in all semi-private and private rooms.

Friends or family are welcome to call the hospital, and their calls will be transferred to your room. Call transfer may be refused if you are receiving a treatment, or the physician is with you. Personal calls can not be transferred to your room after 9:00 pm, so please ensure that your family members are informed of this policy.

Local Calls: Dial "8" + number

Long Distance: Patients and Guests are encouraged to use standard billing options such as a calling card, 3rd party, or collect. If this is not possible, long distance calls may be put through reception by dialing "0" and providing the number. Patients will be billed for long distance calls.

Television Rentals

Televisions can be rented through Reception. Televisions are installed between the hours of 7:30 am to 3:00 pm, Monday to Friday only. The rental charge must be paid prior to installation. Televisions are rented by the week, however, when a hospital stay is less than 7 days, a refund based on number of actual hospital days is provided. There is an additional cost for headphones.

Smoking

In an effort to attain a healthy environment for patients, visitors, and Team Members, the Board of Directors does not permit smoking within the Hospital. There is a designated location near the Minto Centre, across the Hospital parking lot. Please comply with signage.

Medications/ Treatments

The medications, dressings, and treatments provided are ordered by your physician for your benefit. They are designed to speed up recovery, restore health, and enable you to return home as soon as possible. Your cooperation is essential in the management of your care, and we ask that you be in your room when medication and treatments are given.

Bedside Rails

For your safety and protection, the bedside rails are often raised. If you find it necessary to get out of bed while the rails are up, please call for assistance.

Fire Drills and Safety

Every effort has been made to protect the hospital against fire. We have been trained in fire prevention and control, and can evacuate the hospital if necessary. When the fire alarm rings, all automatic doors will close. Do not be alarmed if you hear a fire bell or doors closing. You will be informed shortly, and, if necessary, assisted to a safe area. Team Members participate in fire drills on a regular basis.

Gift Shop and Vending Machines

The Gift Shop which is located in the front lobby is operated by the Lady Minto Hospital Auxiliary. The Gift Shop is open daily from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon, 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, and 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm. Please note that hours of operation depend on volunteer availability. Vending machines are available in the waiting room area.

Meals

Your diet, ordered by your physician, is as important a treatment as any other you will receive. If you have concerns regarding your meals, please ask to see the Support Services Lead.

Although we know that patients prefer "home-cooking", please check with a nurse before eating food brought in by family or visitors.

Meals are served at 8:00 am, 12:00 noon, and 4:30 pm.

Please note that the Hospital cafeteria is open to staff only.

Pastoral Care

If you would like a member of the clergy to visit you at the hospital, please mention this to your nurse.
