Laboratory
As an active member of the Cochrane Regional Lab Program,
Anson General
Hospital
has implemented a new LAB MANAGEMENT SYSTEM.
This system links the laboratories located in Matheson,
Iroquois
Falls
, Cochrane, Hearst,
Smooth
Rock
Falls
, Kapuskasing, and Hornepayne to a centralized database which manages, reports
and tracks all tests performed. This
system helps to identify patient samples through the use of bar codes,
effectively eliminating the possibility of errors.
Results are now automatically transmitted between laboratories!
With this new system in place,
Iroquois
Falls
will be able to connect to the rest of the province once lab restructuring is
complete.
Laboratory tests are performed within the four main areas of Biochemistry,
Haematology, Immunohematology, and Serology. The analyses are maintained at the
leading edge through constant quality control, continued equipment upgrading,
and participation in the Cochrane Regional Lab Program.
Testing not performed on site is completed through an arrangement with a
reference laboratory with results being returned immediately by fax.
A
technologist is always on call after hours in order to provide 24-hour coverage.
The Laboratory also maintains the Hospital blood bank and performs ECG
examinations.
