South Centennial Manor has a voice mail telephone system.. Resident phones are no longer a part of SCM’s switchboard system and if they wish to have a telephone in their room arrangement should be made with local telephone company. Three telephones are available for residents if they do not have one in their rooms, one in hallway past the main lobby, one at nursing and one in Family room in Sunrise Lane.
The Home receives a copy of the “Daily Press” and “The Enterprise” for the residents’ reading pleasure. These copies will be located and stay in the activity room. Residents may subscribe to these newspapers, if they wish, at their own expense.
A resident may also purchase stamps, mail letters and parcels through the office. Personal mail is received daily at approximately 2:30pm and is distributed to the residents.
For a nominal monthly fee, residents can have cable television. Residents are invoiced for cable services monthly.
All staff receive orientation for fire procedures upon commencement of employment. Fire drills are held periodically and staff and residents must cooperate and respond as if it were a real fire. New residents should familiarize themselves with fire exits, particularly the one closest to their room. Fire Education will be provided to the residents yearly. Each room has fire procedures posted for the resident to be aware of. The safety of residents depends on the observance of fire prevention rules.
The Home is equipped with smoke detectors, fire extinguishers and a sprinkler system. The fire protection systems are checked annually by qualified technicians.
Smoking is not permitted in the residents’ bedrooms. The Home has a designated smoking area for residents.
South Centennial Manor is a licensed facility that allows residents at specific times to purchase alcoholic beverages.
