“A Good Visitor is Good Medicine”
A good visitor can be an important part of the health team. Most people are good visitors because
their positive attitudes help the patient and they use their visiting privilege with concern and
thoughtfulness.
However, visitors (even the best ones) can create noise, unrest, congestion, and confusion, plus
bring in dust, dirt and germs. For these reasons, hospitals such as ours have rules about such
things as noise, visiting hours, child visitors, etcetera to ensure the best possible care and
service to all our patients.
Visiting Hours
Unless otherwise indicated, visiting hours are from 2:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. daily. We request
that visitors be restricted to two at any one time. Small children must be accompanied by an
adult, and running in the corridors is not permitted for safety reasons.
Tips on What a Good Visitor Can Do:
- Stop and Ask – Someone at Admitting or the Nursing Station will help you locate the patient
you wish to visit.
- Observe visiting hours – Patients need adequate time for rest and treatment, and the hospital
needs time for care and housekeeping duties.
- Make visits short – This way you won’t over-tire the patient.
- Stay Home – Please don’t visit if you have a cold or are ill.
- Check with the Nursing Department before bringing food from home, as the patient may be on
a special diet.
- Don’t bring alcohol, drugs, or other medication – The physicians and the hospital will
provide all medications the patient needs. Also, it is a criminal offense to bring alcohol/drugs
to patients.
- Respect a patient’s privacy – If door is closed, knock. If a physician or a nurse is with
the patient, please wait until they leave before entering the patient’s room.
- Observe rules such as the hospital’s regulations regarding no smoking and noise.
- Don’t litter room – Garbage bags and pails are easily located in each patient’s room.
- Make visit pleasant and cheerful.
