General Accountabilities:
The MICs Group of Health Services – a partnership of 3 hospitals and 3 long-term care facilities, is seeking a Clinical Nurse Scholar to provide clinical support to nursing Team Members and act as an expert role model and resource for the delivery of high quality care at all three sites: Bingham Memorial Hospital, Anson General Hospital and Lady Minto Hospital. The MICs Clinical Educator is a temporary full-time, ONA position ending March 31, 2025.
Responsibilities include:
- Assess unit-level learning needs and support novice nurses to meet their learning goals
- Provide comprehensive education and evaluation to support newly hired nurses during orientation
- Assess clinical and educational needs of nursing staff on an ongoing basis
- Provide direct and indirect supervision and support of clinical practice for novice nurses
- Participate in evaluation of new nursing staff in conjunction with the Patient Care Managers
- Foster positive staff interactions and promote a positive culture
- Integrate quality indicators, program priorities and MICs values into frontline education
- Facilitate and support nurses through unit-based initiatives and changes
- Provide support and act as expert role model and resource for the delivery of high-quality care
- Create and enable a culture of professional development, incorporating a novice to expert approach
- Provide support with patient care in emergent situations
- Perform other duties as may be assigned by the direct manager
- Organize and lead skills drills
- Support documentation standards
- Assume role of principle clinical resource point person when on shift for nursing staff to help ensure competency within scopes of practice and adoption of best practice
Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse with current College of Nurses of Ontario registration, without restrictions
- Current HSFO BLS Provider
- Minimum 5 years recent and relevant clinical experience in both emergency and acute care
- Advanced knowledge and expertise with central venous access devices required
- Knowledge and experience in clinical setting
- Organization and prioritization skills
- Superior leadership and interpersonal skills
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Excellent computer skills – working knowledge of Meditech Expanse and Microsoft Office Word & Excel and Learning Management software (Surge Learning)
- Keen interest in the process of adult education
Additional Information:
- Must be available to work shifts including days, evenings, nights and weekends
- Shifts and hours may change according to departmental requirements per the collective agreement
- Proof of immunization and vaccination records to the Hospital’s Occupational Health and Safety department
- Legal entitlement to work in Canada
- Satisfactory Criminal Record & Judicial Matters Check
