A  Full-Time Registered Practical Nurse OR Pharmacy Technician

Lady Minto Hospital

Cochrane

Based out of the Lady Minto Hospital in Cochrane, ON, the full-time union position reports to the Team Leader of Pharmaceutical Services and is responsible for the safe preparation and distribution of medications.

RPN requirements: 

  • Practical Nurse diploma from an accredited College
  • Current unrestricted Practical Nurse license with the Colleges of Nurses of Ontario

Pharmacy Technician requirements:

  • Graduate of a certified Pharmacy Technician program or completed the Pharmacy Technician bridging program
  • One or two years of Hospital Pharmacy experience preferred
  • Experience in sterile compounding, including chemotherapy, preferred
  • Experience with Meditech Unit Dose Packaging & Automated Dispensing Units an asset
  • Commitment to participate in continuing education, including but not limited to, mandatory education sessions
  • Licensed or eligible for immediate licensure with the Ontario College of Pharmacists
  • Ministry of Labour Worker Health & Safety Awareness Training Certificate

General Knowledge & Skills:

  • Knowledge of medication formulations & dispensing in accordance with hospital policy
  • Computerized Order Entry, packaging of medications (PacMed), chemo preparation
  • Packaging, barcoding and filling medications for ADUs
  • Maintain medication stock/record keeping, incl. controlled medication count, expiries
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal in English and French would be an asset
  • Experience with computers including Outlook, Meditech
  • Previous experience with IV and Chemotherapeutic preparation will be considered an asset or willingness to learn.
  • Travel to other sites as required
  • A satisfactory criminal record check will be required by the successful candidate as a condition of employment
