General Accountabilities:

The MICs Long-Term Care (LTC) Infection Prevention & Control (IPAC) Program Lead is a management level, full-time, non-unionized position and will report to the Executive Director for LTC.  The MICs LTC IPAC Lead position will be responsible for all infection prevention and control for LTC and Employee Health practices.  The nurse will research, develop, implement and evaluate the LTC Infection Control Program based on best practices and in compliance with all relevant aspects of the Fixing Long-Term Care Home Act and Regulations.  This position will work in collaboration with MICs OHS and Employee Health lead and the MICs Acute IPAC/employee health lead to ensure employee health standards are being met.  

 

Qualifications:

Educational 

  • BSsN degree with current CNO certificate of competence
  • Minimum 5 years experience as a Registered Nurse
  • Experience working as a Registered Nurse in a Long-Term Care setting
  • Infection Control Practitioner certification CBIC CIC designation of LTC-CIP (or commitment to obtain within 3 years)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Solid understanding of Infection Control principles and guidelines – at a minimum education and experience in IPAC practices including: infectious diseases; cleaning and disinfection; data collection and trend analysis; reporting protocols; outbreak management; asepsis; microbiology; adult education; epidemiology and program management
  • Demonstrated computer skills including knowledge of PCC

General 

  • Broad knowledge of hospital policies, procedures and standards of care
  • Knowledge of the FLTCH Act
  • Knowledge of the mechanisms of transmission of infectious disease techniques for preventing and limiting the spread of infectious diseases and infection hazards inherent in medical supplies and equipment design
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to be on-site for the LTC homes as necessary to meet the FLTCH Act requirements
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Ability to organize workload and set priorities
  • Ability to deal with others effectively
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position

Duties

The successful candidate will possess:
  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Institution housekeeping and laundry experience is an asset
  • Must have or be willing to obtain Public Health
  • Must hold and maintain WHIMIS training
  • Solid understanding of infection control principles
  • Bilingualism (English/French) will be considered an asset
